Some patients have asked why I have had to cancel or change clinic sessions recently. A few have joked, "You work so hard, Doctor. Have you finally taken a vacation? You deserve one!"

Thank you for your concern. These recent clinic cancellations have mainly been due to international exchange visits, institutional visits, and academic talks.

A few days ago, I attended the JSSR 2026 annual meeting, where my research received the conference's English Presentation Award. The study compared minimally invasive posterior lumbar fusion with lateral lumbar interbody fusion. In our study, the lateral approach showed advantages in blood loss and early recovery for older patients and patients with osteoporosis.

This research grew out of experience with many surgical cases. Presenting our work is only part of the value of these visits. Discussions with colleagues also expose me to different approaches and help inform my decisions in the clinic and operating room.
